This zip file contains the sources of DIGI_NED in a .TGZ file and it is ZIPed to enable transport using the DOS 8.3 filename format as still widely in use on packet-radio. .TGZ is short for .TAR.GZ, which means that the archive was put together using TAR and then compressed using GZIP. This is a defacto standard for distribution of sources under LINUX. If you want to view the source in Windows use WinZIP, WinZIP understands the TGZ format. When you want to publish the source I encourage you to use one of the following two options: - Use this ZIP file if you want to or have to stick to the braindead MSDOS 8.3 file format. This is mainly meant for distribution over packet-radio. - Trash this wrapper and this README.TXT and publish the source under its full-name, which is "digi_ned-x.x.x.tgz" where "x" is replaced by the version number. I also recommend this when distributing this file as source in Linux distributions etc. Just regard this ZIP file as a container for undamaged transport of a long filename file. Linux users know how to handle .TGZ files. I do not recommend use of a truncated name for the .TGZ file, i.e. DIGI_NED.TGZ, as the version is not visible anymore after download.
